Fedoo is a memorable name, people should have this name in their head.
Welcome to Micshariki Africa brother Fedoo. Introductions first, who is Fedoo, your government names and what do you do?
Thank you very much my brother. My official name is Fredrick Pius Shoo. Through the art of music I am well known by the name FEDOO. Fredrick or Fedoo is a Hip Hop artist (emcee) representing Tanzania. I am also a student. I am currently studying a Professional Tour Guide and Outdoor Leadership course. In short I am good ambassador in the tourism sector of our country.
How did your artistic name come about and what does it mean?
FEDOO is a name that was given to me by my close people while we were in secondary school in Moshi. At first I used a completely different name when I was starting my musical career, but I saw that a large percentage of them were unable to forget the name Fedoo. The real meaning of Fedoo is the abbreviation of the name Fredrick, and for me Fedoo is Feel Dough (Doo). I feel money all the time and that is the real meaning of Fedoo.
You first came to my attention when you were featured in Adam Shule Kongwe's Mixtape CHI. What was the experience like working with one of the finest underground emcees from Tanzania?
First of all, respect to brother Adam Shule Kongwe, one of the best Tanzanian talented emcees, for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to participate in his mixtape 'CHI', in which I was involved in song number 18, Ngoma Ya Bata. It was a very big opportunity for me because it built me up and made me learn more so that the faith they have in me does not diminish. Being on the 'CHI' mixtape is a very precious opportunity for me because I was also very happy to be on the same song with one of my favorite emcee Javan (Chuna Ngozi).
How did your musical journey begin and how has been it been so far?
My musical journey started in MOSHI with the stages of Listening, Remembering, Acting Like Them and At The End Of The Day Composing my first Verse. When I was young I grew up listening to different people who were already doing well in Hip Hop like Nikki Mbishi, Fid Q, ChindoMan, Professor J, the Late Langa and many others, I can't really mention them all. These are the artists I grew up listening to a lot and being able to sing all their songs without hesitation. After that I began writing my own verses and rapping until the day I met the late Andre K with whom I recorded my first song. The journey is still going on and every day I see myself growing.
You have been able to release a couple of singles that introduced you to the fans. How did it feel like when you first entered the booth? Which is the first song that you recorded and how did the fans receive it?
Wow! My first time entering the booth was a little different because it I has already seen the inside of the booth before. All I could think about was how I would sound? I was very lucky because the first day I entered the booth, the producer was Tenth Wonder who is doing very well in preparing Hip Hop songs here in Tanzania. I managed to do my first Song called Ngumu Kutuhimili featuring Andre K and Eddy Mc. It turned out very well and I did it with energy, honestly because the day I met Andre K was the day he introduced me to 10th wonder and the same day was the day we recorded Ngumu Kutuhimili. The song was very well received. Much respect to brother Lucas Malali (LC) his 24barz project introduced me very well to the fans of Hip Hop Music in Tanzania.
Last year you were busy too. You released a couple of singles and worked with Black Ninja of Boombap Clinic, how did this come about and how did you feel working with one of this seasoned producer?
Working with Black Ninja was a great opportunity for me, I can say. Black Ninja is one of the hottest Hip Hop producers here in Tanzania ever in our generation. Social media is what brought me and him together until we got to work together. The closeness continued where it led Black to come to Moshi and do some of the works that are in the Watema Rhymes project together with Juu Chini Chini Juu. The projects introduced me more to people and connected me with emcees from different regions. I just want to say respect to Black Ninja and the BBC. In general, I feel peace working with them, more will come from this friendship. The main thing is that, people should get ready.
You also released one of the best EPs of the year 2022, Mangi Sabas. Tell us about this project, the idea behind the title, the producers involved and the artists featured in the project.
Thank you very much for recognizing MANGI SABAS EP as one of the best projects last year. The idea of the project came from the background I come from. Purely I am Chagga from the North of Uru and in history there were some chiefs who were able to lead Uru in the North who were Mangi Laiseri, Mangi Kisarika and Mangi Sabas. Why Mangi Sabas? It's because KCMC Moshi is the only place Mangi Sabas is remembered because there is a secondary school named after him. The project aims to introduce me, Fedoo as the Mangi Sabas of this rap, a real chief in my own streets. The project has 5 songs which are;
- Nicheki
- Money ft. Nigger P
- Mapicha Picha
- Oldskul Haswa
- Vichwa Vichwa ft. Bad Ngundo and Fivara
The producer was Dr. Luis from Northblock Records, and the date 20.12.2022 was the day the project was officially released. It is still available for 5000Tshs only. Respect to all who were able to support and continue to buy this project. Thanks and respect to Fivara and Bad Ngundo for the love.
How important a step was this EP in your journey of growth as a Hip Hop emcee?
Mangi Sabas the Ep was very important to me as an upcoming underground Hip Hop artist. The project has been received so well that it motivates to continue working on many other projects due to the confidence I got from this project. Mangi Sabas is a very big thing for me and people should expect a lot of work this year. My mixtape is coming. For those who do not have the EP kindly check me out to get your copy, you are not late.
What are some of the challenges you faced as an upcoming emcee and also a student at the same time? How do you manage to balance your time between books and mics?
It is easy for me because schedule is everything in daily life. Also for me sometimes I think it's better to do the right thing when it's not the right time. I can divide myself and do all without losing peace.
What can we expect from you this year?
As I said, people should expect many things from me this year. Projects are coming including the release of my first mixtape. Make sure you follow me more so that you can know when it will come out and the name of the mixtape as well. Also this year, expect to hear me being featured in some projects here in Tanzania and Kenya.
How do you feel working with Micshariki Africa and K Dawg on their up upcoming album? What can our fans expect from this project?
Personally, it is a great comfort for me to be one of the participants in this great project in East Africa. Being involved in this album that is coming out soon (Mashariki Ya Fikra) is a very big thing for me. In fact, because there are many smart rappers and being a representative of them gives me more faith about what I do. I just want to tell people get ready to be entertained and enlightened. This project has touched different topics such as Religion, Politics, Economy and Culture of the people of East Africa which are Kenya and Tanzania. Msito and I promise the people of Kenya and Tanzania that they shall be entertained and educated via the Mashariki Ya Fikra album.
With regards to K dawg I am also very happy to be one of the people who worked with him as he is one of the best producers from Kenya. His instrumentals and his way of finishing songs made me think of how I would like to work with him one day. Through Micshariki Africa it has become possible and I believe we will continue to work. Peace to K dawg
How was the experience like working with Msito one of the best upcoming underground Hip Hop emcees from Kenya?
Working with Msito is like being in school my brother. I have learned many things from him. Msito has experience with the booth since he has already done many tracks. For me, I take this as a test and I passed it. Msito made me grow and gave me a lot of energy during the time I was recording and I have learned a lot from him, including technical issues and how he flows with rhythms, also about time management. Msito has become my main teacher. Yooh Msito wherever you are respect for you, I love you very much brother and you know it. Expect more tracks with Msito after this album, we are not done yet.
Thanks for your time, final thoughts?
Thank you brother. Finally, I would like to tell the people, the stakeholders and fans who are following and the Kulture closely not to get tired but to continue supporting us endlessly so that we can continue to work tirelessly as well. The most important date is 13.03.2023, people should be ready for that day. The main thing is that you follow us everywhere Micshariki Africa is so that you can get the latest update on this project.
Thank you.
