Kyalo Kilonzo who goes by the stage name Malkolm K is a young and upcoming rapper who has been having that passion for music and in 2018 he decided to do it officially and professionally. He currently has a new EP Timid Emotions which has a songs like Fathe and Keep It Mia.
Musiq Jared linked up with Malkolm K and he took us through his musical journey. How he started, what he has achieved so far and his take on his recently releases EP Timid Emotions and his future plans this year.
Malkolm K describes Timid Emotions, "like his baby. He feels like the tape describes how much he has grown as an artist both emotionally and mentally.
"I've been through a lot and Timid Emotions sums up how I feel about love, friendships and the world in general. Each song on the tape was inspired by a particular event in my life and those around me. Coming up with the concept for the tape was basically living my life". Says Malkom K.
Who is Malkolm K, your real names and brief history about you?
My government name is Kyalo Kilonzo. I'm a son, a brother and a lover to many. I was born and bred in Machakos where the sun is always hot.
How did you start music?
Growing up I had so much passion for art I just didn't know it was music till later on in life. I started writing music from an early age but I was lucky enough to meet a friend in the university, who introduced me to recording in 2018. That was my first time ever hitting the studio and recording a joint. I felt at home.
How long have been doing music?
I officially dropped my solo debut project in 2019 titled, Warm Turkey so I would say I've officially been doing music as Malkolm K for at least 4 Years.
What inspired you into doing music?
I grew up interested in poetry and having grown up with a cousin and brother that love music I found myself interested in the art. Also listening to guys like Virusi Mbaya really inspired me a lot, especially his pen game. That guy is the G.O.A.T. Also listening to dancehall all through high school really influenced my desire to do music.
How do you describe the kind of music that you do?
I would refer to my style of music as some contemporary Hip Hop. Just good vibes.
How is your creative process?
It usually starts with getting myself into the moment, bumping a beat then the music just starts forming in my head. But the music I write is usually inspired by how I'm feeling at that particular moment or what I'm going through in life.
You have a new EP that you have dropped dubbed 'Timid emotions', how has the process of coming up with this project been like?
Man, Timid Emotions is my baby. I feel like the tape describes how much I've grown as an artist both emotionally and mentally. 'Timid Emotions' has how many tracks and what’s your favorite track off the album?
Timid Emotions has a total of 8 Tracks with 'Keep it Mia' being my favorite. Once you listen to it you'll understand why. I love that song.

Lol, I don't have a least favorite song.
2023 is here, what's next for Malkolm K?
I'm focusing on working with other artists. I've got some fire collaborations in the works. I will be dropping more projects also…couple of tapes maybe...you never know really.
What plans do you have to ensure you get more people bumping on your music?
Well, I plan on working with more artists, doing more interviews as well as shows. Oh, and more promotions.
